Mark College is a secondary school for boys of average or above average ability who have a specific learning difficulty (dyslexia). The College provides the full National Curriculum to GCSE level. French is taught for conversation level only.
Class size is small (normally 8 or 9) with additional one to one help for English and Mathematics where necessary. Each lesson is geared to the needs of the pupils, giving them access to work appropriate to their age and ability.
The campus is largely purpose built and features excellent boarding and teaching accommodation. All playing fields and boarding are on site. The College has a new full size (4 badminton courts) sports hall.
The College provides a broad education designed to be developmental both academically and socially. Its involvement in research and its links with the USA ensure latest developments are appraised and adopted if worthwhile. The College makes extensive use of voice output computer technology.
The College holds workshops for other professionals, particularly in the area of dyslexia and mathematics (Dr Chinn & Richard Ashcroft are the authors of 'Mathematics for Dyslexics: A Teaching Handbook'). Dr Chinn was Chairman of the 1994 BDA International Conference.
The College is registered under category A of the Council for Schools Teaching Dyslexics (CReSTeD) and is approved by the DfEE. The very positive 1997 Ofsted report described the College as 'very good value for money'.
